.45acp CC

How many of you CC a .45, acp? When I'm not lusting after a 12-4 2-inch for CC, I often think about carrying a larger caliber handgun.

With the weight difference aside, I'm thinking about a .45 acp. A smallish S&W (CS45?) or maybe a G---k 30 or 36! What say you?

Sir, FWIW, I carry a full-size steel 1911 in a Sparks Summer Special. It conceals remarkably well, and I'm not a big guy.

I do sometimes think about a Lightweight Commander, though. The steel gun gets heavy after a while.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I frequently carry a full size Norinco M1911. I used to carry in a Don Hume 715M IWB. I recently switched to a tuckable IWB that I made.

I wouldn't mind having a Springfield MicroCompact, but just to have something different, not because it's particularly difficult to carry the Norinco.

I don't like double action autos and the .45 Glocks are too big for my hand, so when it comes to a .45, it'll probably always be an M1911 or nothing, unless I manage to get an outrageous deal on a 4" S&W 25-2 or 25-5.

This one has filled my holster on many occasions. Light and thin, just the thing for times when a bad back is bothering you.

Almost every day. Either a Kimber Compact CDP (pre-Series II) or a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. I've been carrying the Kimber since I bought it NIB in '01 and since I bought the Mil-Spec in November '08 (my Obama gun) I've been swapping them back and forth.
The Mil-Spec is a 5" full-size all steel 1911 if you're not familiar with it. A Milt Sparks sharkskin gunbelt and a Milt Sparks Summer Special II makes it very comfortable to carry and it hides under a loose t-shirt very well.

After having bought a Pro-Series 442 last weekend, the 1911s may not be carried quite so much, fwiw.:D

I'm carrying this .45 ACP today...

Funny you should ask, as I've been monkeying around with various gun and holster combinations as recently as today. I have the dilemma of wanting to carry as much gun as possible on a torso of modest stature, in a climate that doesn't favor concealing garments. At this time of year, when it's really, really, hot, and humid to boot, an untucked, square cut sportshirt is about as much of a coverup as the casual business environment in which I work permits. (Anyone walking around metro Phoenix in the summer actually wearing anything like a suitcoat or sports jacket, vest, etc., is certainly covering up something --- gun, colostomy bag, whatever... and assumed to be hiding a gun...)

I can conceal a P-12 in Sparks Summer Special under a casual shirt, but even though it's been dehorned, the checkered Dymondwood grips and mainspring housing rub uncomfortably against my skin, and it bothers me that that the gun and holster are exposed to perspiration. So, I'm resolved to the compromise of a Glock 36 (the short-barreled, single stack, 6+1 capacity .45 ACP,) in a Blade-Tech IWB w/sweat guard. The holster is certainly impervious to perspiration, and seems to adequately shield the gun from same, and if not, no harm done. I have not satisfactorily resolved the manner of carrying extra mags, in their proper position, along with cell phone, hip pocket wallet, &tc.

Since you are already a Govt. Model 1911 kind of guy, you would really like a LW Commander sized 1911 for everyday carry.

Sir, I hear ya. Were it not for money obstacles, I'd already have one.

Thanks, and Semper Fi.

My two favorite .45's for carry are my CS45 and 4513TSW thats been de-railed. I'm retired so the dress to impress does not apply. My summer garb is cargo shorts and polo shirt untucked. Both .45's carry well in a Hume JIT slide or a Bianchi Pro IWB. I prefer the 4513 overall.

:cool:my edc is a cs 45 just about perfect:eek: but im looking at getting 638 as a bug:confused:

I carry the Kimber CDP Ultra II 3" 1911. It carries very easily. I use a MTAC IWB or a carry-loc for OWB. Both carry without printing and are comfortable. The drawback is the 7 + 1 mag. So I carry 2 spare mags. I shoot it often at the range at work on wednesday night competitions. I am at a disadvantage due to the small mags. The other tend to carry G17s with 15 rd mags.

C&L,

That is my "Grail Gun", I would find a way to carry it everyday all day.

Same here, only I have no complaint against the weight of the Gov't Model, and my LW Cdr, which is a fine, very accurate and reliable gun that is easy to shoot, actually is LESS comfortable than the 5", because the muzzle pokes me. In a belt holster, the Cdr is better.

P.S. C&L: Thanks for posting that Colt again. I stored your photo this time.

My 1911Sc commander has been on my hip everyday for over 3 years I don't ever see myself carrying anything else, it conceals great, and is very comfortable.

FWIW, my everyday carry is a 325 NightGuard. I bobbed the hammer, did the Jerry Miculek trigger job off of the DVD, and put his grips on it. I use a Galco Summer Comfort (for a 4" N-frame) IWB with shorts and an untucked polo-style shirt. The extra length on the holster stabilizes it very well, and it rides high, with the cylinder above my belt. Have looked at other holsters, but this works well for me for now. I'm 6'1" and 185#. Haven't figured out how to conceal extra ammo except for 1/3 moon clips in the front pocket.

The smallest is not usually the best at least for me. I find that slightly larger guns that allow a full grip draw better and index better in the hand. The smallest I will go is 3913/457. In my opinion you might as well carry a larger gun rather than a smaller one as long as it conceals. Weight differences are usually small in these alloy or plastic framed guns. Also, I find that I can't conceal Glocks as well as Third Gen guns because of the shape of the slide on the Glocks when carried at 3:30 with a good degree of forward cant.
