I just bought a Performance Center 460 and was wondering if some of you guys with 460 experiance could answer some questions.
1. What scope or scopes do you recommend?
2. What ring height works best to clear the front sight?
3. Have you experianced bad accuracy with .45 LC ammo?

My range did not have any 460 ammo so I bought some .45 LC ammo to test it out and accuracy was not good with this
ammo.

This gun is one of the two tone guns with the 7.5" barrel that was supposedly 1 of 500.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I have a PC 460 with the 12" barrel. I use 2 Millet low height rings and, believe it or not, a Swift 4x scope. The recoil with full power ammo isn't as fierce as one would think. After all, the revolver weighs about 5 pounds! I have put abut 30 rounds of 460, and a few 454 loads, through it with the heaviest load being 395 grain Cor Bon. I would guess that the 45 Colt would be less accurate due to the gap in getting to the forcing cone from the chamber. At 50 yards, my first trip to the range, with 460 ammo I can shoot groups in which the shots touch each other. Good luck with the 460; I like the PC 7.5 version best of all but I got a great deal on the one I have and couldn't pass it by. Also, Underwood Ammo of WV makes a good affordable round.

The recoil shooting 45 LC and the 454 is very different and with 460 Ammo it is like dynamite. However mine is the snub bear gun and it is probably more pronounced than your PC. Fun to shoot but hold on tight

Yee-haw, I'll bet there is a little more bite at that snub barrel length. Not to mention the brake must make that blast effect really pronounced. I don't remember the recoil with the 454; so it couldn't have been too bad.

Devildog, I was thinking the same thing about the .45 LC ammo, I hope this is the case because I love this gun! I also got a very good deal on it. I have been looking for this exact gun for a long time and stumbled upon this one.
Ive been hunting with either a 29 or a 629 classic for years, and have been holding out for one of these beasts.

UPDATE: I got some 460 ammo yesterday and had a chance to shoot it today. The 460 ammo shoots alot different than the 45LC. I shot 4 rounds and it looked like I shot 2. I only shot it at 25 yards but it litterally puts em in the same hole. Recoil was stout but not unbearable. Its actually pretty fun to shoot. My ten year old son was watching and was amazed at the fireball and the concussion, and he was standing behind me! Now I just have to find a scope.

I have Warne QD rings and bases with a bushnell scope on my 460 XVR!! No problems at all and accurate as hell! Have fired no 45 Colt, My gun loves 454 Casull rounds!! If i do my part i get 1 ragged hole at 50 YDS!!

Really like my 460s' . Other people don't so much. especially at the range with me.

100 yard accuracy is outstanding. I have a 3X12 Burris with Leupold rings.

Can't have too much scope on these monsters.

It's a 200yd gun so that's what I've got mine sighted in for. I've never shot anything but 460 ammo out of it. Mine has Burris Custom Zee rings and a Burris 3x-12x scope on it. My 500's wear 2x & 4x Leupold scopes.

The number of rings necessary has been brought up before but it bears repeating. Mine wear 4 rings because of the length/weight of the tube and the tremendous amount of recoil. I don't want the tube distorting while shooting or coming loose. Some people get by with only two rings on the 500, mine wear 3 & 4 for the same reason. After spending a year trying to scope my 500 when it first came out I learned from my experience.
You've bought a quality gun, now put quality glass on it, you'll love it even more!

You shouldn't have to worry about the scope clearing the front sight. If it's that close you'll most likely blow the glass out. With the added scope mount it can't sit low enough to see the front sight. You just need to clear the rear sight.
Here's my 7-1/2" PC 500 with a 2x Leupold sitting as low as it can.

The 7-1/2" PC460 model should have been made just like the 7-1/2" PC500 run so there would have been 2000 produced. But, I could be wrong.

I have the 460 X frame with the 8 3/8 inch barrel. I have used a Leupold fixed 4 power on both my 460 & the 500 with no problems at all. The rings I use are both low and med height. The 460 is very accurate with the 200 grain Hornady FTX bullet and a max load of Hogdon H 110. I shot a hog last year at about 40 yards broadside with the 460 and the bullet was recovered just under the skin on the off side. Only one rib bone was struck, the other side went between ribs. I think that this revolver should be capable of more than 18 inches of penetration in tissue. The bullet weighed 130 grains or only 65% of it's original weight. This bullet was less than impressive to me and it will not see any more service in a hunting situation for me unless it is on a smaller deer size animal. I am going to try the Barnes 200 grain XPB and the 275 grain XPB and maybe a 300 grain Speer Deep Curl this year and will work out loads for accuracy and go from there. Good luck with yours and enjoy the awesome power the cartridge generates.

Ohiococonut, my 7.5" 460 looks just like your 500 except my cylinder is fluted, a fiber-optic frontsight and it has sling swivels like your 460 PC hunter. What kind of base is that on your 7.5'' 500? This gun is exactly what I wanted in a hunting handgun. Thanks ALOT for all of your help and advice! You guys are making it alot easier on me to make a decision.
Does anyone have any experiance with an Aimpoint 9000SC? This is one of my considerations along with a Burris or Bushnell Elite.

Thanks again guys for all your help!! Pictures are greatly appreciated.

I found areally good deal on a Bushnell Elite 2-6 power scope yesterday. It is silver but I only paid $50.00 for it!! I got the 460 sighted in, and it is very accurate with the 200 gr Hornady load. Cant wait to hunt with this thing!

i too have the 500 mag.hunter model from the performance center...7.5"barell...i have the bushnell scope on it...earlier this month i took a muflon ram with it...previously i have taken several boars,a merino ram ,and a 4-horn ram with it...handles well and plenty of horsepower..
