Hey all,

I'm really interested in purchasing a 460 xvr, right now I am looking at the 10inch. That being said I have some questions, what is the difference with the barrel lengths(the 8 to the 14inch)? Are all the 460xvr's performance center? And can you get quality shooting with this gun with factory loads?

I have an 8 3/8 inch 460 XVR

I have the 8 3/8 inch standard XVR (non PC) and I could not imagine wanting any longer barrel on my XVR. I do not know why you would want the longer barrel? I carry mine in a Simply Rugged holster and chest strap (great holster). I could not imagine carrying a 10 inch or 14 inch. Get a carbine at that point! Do you want the longer barrel for more velocity? If so, read below.

I hand load all my rounds, expecially for this beast. I am getting 2000 fps with a Hornady 300 grain XTP Mag bullet and 40.0 grains of H110 using a Large Rifle Magnum Primer.

I have never fired a factory round through any of my guns in the last few years, especially the .460 Magnum.

If you get a 460, I cannot recommend enough to get into hand loading your own.

The 460 is in general a monster to carry around and this is comming from a guy who carries a 454Casull in a 6" barrel. If you want it to hunt with, you may want to consider how far you are going to carrying it. A rifle is by far a easier package to carry. As for a hunting pistol for deer and black bear, I am going back to much more comfortable M29 in just as deadly 44mag.
