I bought a 4" Smith&Wesson model 48-4 in about 98% blue condition, but unfortunately no box or paperwork. The serial number tells me it was born in 1977. I would like to shoot this one...heck, I have some ammo lying around, so I should use some. I should be picking it up on the 17th of this month (Kommiefornia don't ya know!).

Congratulations on your new purchase. I have a 4" 48 as well, you should enjoy it. However, I have a word of advice for you. Take a .22 cleaning rod with a mop, and an old nylon tooth brush, to the range with you. You'll understand why after the first cylinder full. :D

I also have a 4" 48, not a pinned one but prior to lock. I shoot CCI 40 grn stuff in it, and Win. 40 grn. also with no sticking in the cylinder. I've had it about a year and none of those troubles. I also shoot the .22WRF made by CCI and it shoots just as well as the regular .22 mag ammo. Also the CCI 40Grn HP in WRF..

Some say don't shoot it in that gun but it works fine, is accurate and isn't nearly as noisy as the .22mag. I do brush out the chamber if I'm going to go back to shooting .22mag after the WRF. One point for me is that the WRF is about three bucks a box cheaper than the cheapest 22mag I can find here.

Enjoy you gun, it is a dynamite revolver to own and shoot.
