48 frame question

I am new to the forum and am looking for a 48. Many I have seen on Gunbroker have what appears to be a crack on the right side of the frame just below the rear sight. Can anybody shed any light on this? Thank you.

Your probably seeing the sideplate departure line. It's normal. Remove all those little screws on the right side and the sideplate can come off. It's how you get to the innards of a Smith.
