5.11 holster shirts???

Has anyone tried these? I'm curious if they work, how well they work, and how much you can really carry if it does work. It seems like a brilliant option, but it's a little pricey to just buy one to try out.

Holster Shirt | Concealed Carry Undergear Shirts | 5.11 Tactical

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I have a couple of them and I think that they are a pretty good idea. I carry a J-frame in them under one of their concealed shirts. The only issue I have with them is that they make me sweat a lot, now I sweat a lot anyways, but I only wear them in cooler weather. I wore one to a range just a couple of weeks ago and was drenched by the time we left. Just me.

Both of those other ones seem to be a good idea, I haven't used either one, but will tell you that the 5.11 has support straps over the shoulders. At first I was a little skeptical as I thought it would make them bulky...but after carrying all day it really helped out. I would look around for deals on them, LA Police Gear usually has sales and/or might be cheaper than a local store. Good luck.

I use them all the time. My 2 cents?

Cons: I agree that they can be hot. If you order them sized correctly, they are tight, but that actually helps [after you get used to it.] They're not really cheap, but not really expensive either.

Pros: It works. It conceals full size autos, my PC 327 and other big revolvers, and has two pockets. One for the semi, the other for extra mags, or a revolver and BUG, etc... and it all works well. I usually carry an ultra-compact 9MM, and forget it's there. I have to disarm frequently during a normal work day, and access is easy while not drawing a lot of attention. No holster to remove from belt or put away.

You do need the quick access Oxford or short sleeve shirt, though. I'm not inherently cheap, but my wife saw the ad online, and converted some of my dress shirts to work with the 511, and it's a perfect solution.

With coat and tie, or just the shirt, tucked in, you look absolutely "normal." Never been tagged, even by others who are carrying....

PS, I don't have any vested interest in 511, it's just a perfect CC solution for me, and it has proven itself for a couple years now.

From the videos I've seen, looks like the draw would be inconsistent and slow. Is there something in the pocket that holds the gun in the same position every time?

@Len...I don't have vested interest in them either, though I should with all of their stuff I have bought over the past few years...but it holds up even in Iraq/Afghanistan....should have invested years ago...

@Photoman...there are holsters sewn into the sides, the draw takes some getting use to but as with anything else it just takes practice...my J frame sits in the same position everytime. When I first got them I used a pocket holster inside the holster in the shirt, but after a while figured out that the holster in the shirt was there for a reason. Just me.

I agree with Dave. The pockets seem to adapt to the size/shape of the gun, with a wide velcro strip anchoring it in there. The tight "stretchiness" of the material hugs it in close, so it doesn't flop around. [Late note: I have, however found that carrying more than one spare mag on the offside just won't work for me...so I only carry one extra in there to keep them from jumbling around.]

The draw [with a cover shirt] is kind of like using a regular shoulder holster. Sweep your shirt open and away with your support hand, grabbing the velcro open as you go by, then grab the butt of the gun and pull straight across. It will keep hammers from hanging [especially as there is a curve sewn in to naturally guide the gun in and out].

The only down side I've heard about drawing is that some "portly" guys have a hard time reaching across the gut for any gun.

So, if you wouldn't feel comfortable with a normal shoulder rig, this probably won't suit you, but if you are, this is a great, ultra concealed solution for me.

Hope this helps,

Len

I use one with a J frame an G26. My Colt 1908 will fall out if I bend over. The other two will not.
