What is you experience in finding good 5.56 ammo for recent production Ruger Mini-14s?

I am looking for combat accuracy, availability and cost for recreational shooting and accuracy/performance.

I will consult Lucky Gunner but I want some forum experience as well.

I favor the Mini-30's, but have had several Mini-14's as well.
I really liked PMC's version of the M855 "green tip" penetrator.
The M855 is not known for accuracy due to the steel core making the bullet a bit "wobbly", but the PMC version ( they call it the X-Tac L.A.P., light armor piercing) was more accurate than the Lake City version.
Cases are annealed and primers sealed, just like the real deal, but the PMC L.A.P. runs a bit lower in velocity than the NATO stuff.
About 2 MOA and 3050 fps for M855 out of a 16 inch barrel, and I was getting 1 1/2 MOA and 2925 for the PMC.
For an expanding bullet I reloaded 60 grain Hornady V-Max, there are factory loads for the same bullet, although 55 grain will be easier to find.
I liked the rounds in the 60 grain range so as to have a similar POI as the 62 grain FMJ/green tip.
Optimum bullet weight will also depend on what series Mini you have. Older ones had a 1-10" twist, then changed to 1-7", now 1-9".

You can tell the series you have by the first three numbers of the serial #
Some other excellent ammo for a very reasonable price is from PPU. Great brass to save for reloading as well.

I like the PMC Xtac in both flavors, 55gr and 62gr. Also, the American Eagle XM193 is a decent performer. I also shoot a lot of .223 Remington through my Mini 14. Fiocchi, and again, American Eagle are my favorites. I've never tried it, but I hear good things about Wolf Gold and PMC Bronze.

Target Sports USA sells bulk ammo with free shipping in most calibers. SGammo also has good prices on bulk. Prices are about the same after shipping costs. In my experience, Lucky Gunner is a more expensive than most.
