5” M&P

I'm going to guess late in 1919... I have 231046 and it is June, 1919.

Is that from a factory letter? Everything I have listed indicates that SN would probably date from 1914-15. 290xxx should be from early-mid 1919.

Those 5 inch M&P are sweet guns. I don't have one, unfortunately, but tried one from a friend the balance is excellent.

I asked a member of the RCMP years ago why they used the five-inch barrels. Thought it was a holdover mentality from Canada's using the gun in .38-200 in WW II.

He said it was probably because of the balance and the looks.
And I think the standard barrel on the M&P/Model 10 does look best in five-inch.

RCMP used them from 1954-until about 1990 when they adopted a 9mm DA-only S&W auto.

Detriot police also used that length.
