Its been a while since Ive posted, Old smith revolvers don't show up much at local shops and it seems like when they do, They are a premium, While I have managed to grab a couple over the past couple years, A value priced shooter Highway Patrolman has eluded me,
I was in a shop 2 weeks ago looking at a worn 27-2 and did not buy as I already had the exact same one but LNIB and another to shoot,
Then this showed up,
5 screw S133*** with lots of holster wear and it was a Pittsburgh police family which this was said to belong to Dad or Grand dad, As Daughter who was in her 60s which was also a police man in Pittsburgh could not remember, Yes I found this in a shop after only a few hours after they bought it,
I know the staff member who bought it, I believe his recollection,
Sorry for the poor pic, But here you go,
For those who are asking,
$321 took it home,
I feel really lucky with this purchase and finally get to add a found in the wild Highway Patrolman to my collection!

Oddly I brought home a Pre-17 two months ago for only a tad more, and was super happy about that one too,
This HP is not wearing original grips as you can see, Im ok with it, As I said earlier, I am amazed at the mechanical condition, Pulling the trigger, The hammer still has room to go before the cylinder locks up, Nearly no finish left on the cylinder and the front of the barrel, But WOW I am happy, I didn't post the price to flaunt it, But folks always want to ask in a public forum and knowing that a finish challenged HP just sold for XXX may be of some use to some thinking that theirs is worth a BILLION dollars, I kinds figure that the one I found was a 5 screw version is the most interesting thing as its the first year produced, Is also why I I just got it and didn't worry about the worn finish,
Ill try to post a bit more often,
Thanks all!
Enjoy the hunt!
