Just an added thought, I purchased an old 1902 model Smith in 32/20 that was in poor condition. Light rust was everywhere and I was able to remove all the side plate screws except the one near the hammer. I had to replace the trigger return spring, (leaf on this model), so I tried the hammer handle trick and it work great without damaging the stuck screw.
