5 shot 45 colt

elm, it may not be your cup of tea but Taurus makes that exact gun. I have one. They made it in a light weight version and I think in Titanium. Mine is a light weight. You can put the grips off the 38 on it and it gets SMALL. They made Jeff Cooper the only Gold colored one in 45.

Yeah, my brother has kept encouraging me to buy a 2½ inch Taurus 5 shot .41 Magnum we keep seeing at gun shows because he says my drooling on it is damaging the value to the seller. It isn't titanium, though! That would HURT!

Taurus doesn't catalog the one I have anymore... but if you can find a Model 450 Utra-lite in 45LC it is a wonderful gun, with low n slow cowboy loads it shoots like a 38 special... just bigger holes...lol

S&W would have to do some serious revision to the L frame to make it a 5 shot 45. I have 3 5 shot L frame 44s (69, 696 and 396) and good calipers and mics. I bought the 69 first with the thought of making it into a 45. But, reaming it to 45 would leave the outside of cylinder paper thin. Between chambers would be fine. Taurus can do it because the have a smaller ratchet OD and chambers are closer to center of cylinder. For S&W to fo this they would need to make a smaller ratchet and because of this move the hand and its frame slot closer to center. To do this would take thinner action parts or offset hand. PLUS, moving the chambers in would mean they would need to lower the barrel in the frame to match. Which would mean a thinner area where yoke fits under barrel or a revised yoke.
The other alternative is to widen the frame window from top to bottom so a larger OD cylinder, Which would mean considerable reworking of the frame stamping and the pivot points of bolt, trigger, hammer etc.

NOT going to happen. IMHO

Except they did already with the governor. Just needs a shorter cylinder

Nope, its a 6 shot and the Governor is a long N framed sized gun with a stretched out frame. The Taurus Judge is a 5 shot. As stated above Taurus used a smaller ratchet diameter that allows moving the chambers closer to the center. I would want a L framed sized frame and cylinder, preferably light weight alloy. I went with 396 and installed a Titanium cylinder. Yes, its a 44 spec. But, I don't see an L frame 45 coming along from S&W for a long time.

I want a Taurus 450 or even a 45 Colt Tracker, I even bought the Taurus 445 in 44 Spl and a 44 Tracker because the S&W M69 just looks nasty, even though the new 2.75" M69 might get bought.

Taurus just has too many issues.

It can be done.......I think
Rim on 45 is smaller
44 Mag runs higher pressure
Cut the chamber at 476.........
It’s physics

I debated whether to get that CA in .45 Colt or the Pitbull in .45 ACP. Went with the Pitbull because I already reload ACP. Wouldn't mind having both. Love my Pitbull.

Best of both… bought the 45 Colt Bulldog, then Charter fit a cyl & Crain from a Pit Bull. Shoots great. Cost $150 for factory service.

Charter retrofitted my 5 shot .32 Undercoverette with a newer 6 shot cylinder for $50. Great customer service. It shoots amazing 7 yards groups with the Federal .32 H&R LSWC load…
