Why are their two different comps on the 500 ? Why is one for lead and the other for jacketed bullets and what happens if you use the wrong ammo with the wrong comp?

I just got a new 4 incher, blew thru about 10 rounds using a few different types of ammo with different type bullets and took a chance using the same comp. I figured a few rounds wouldn't hurt anything but I can't understand why there's 2 different comps.

TIA

BTW the guy next to me was shooting a SW 25 (.45acp) and it sounded like he was shooting a .22 compared to the .500 :D

Congratulations on the new wheelgun

One of the comps has no upward vents.

That one is for lead. It prevents the front sight from getting tough to clean deposits on it.

You can not hurt or endanger anything by using the wrong factory supplied comp with your 500 revolver.

+1 about the leading issue and hard to clean, depending on which comp.

I also have the 4" 500SW and I load it using 440gr bullets. When it is discharged, everyone can feel the thermonuclear vibration within the 1 mile radius. :)

Seriously, the guy 10 lanes down from me (in an outdoor range) told me to let him know before I shoot so he can take cover. :)
