I am about to buy a s&w 500 for $1023. Its the 8 and 3/8 inch barrel version. Is this a good price.

Pretty average price. If its like new go for it maybe talk em down to an even 1000. Ive paid as low as 900 for one that length but it did have a good nick in it. Many will tell you they got one cheaper but i doubt youll find any 500 or 460 under 1k.

There are a million 500s for sale, and they are almost entirely barely shot. Someone bought one, fired it a few times at the range, then decided to sell it because it rarely gets more than 4-5 rounds a session. Happens daily.

When it comes to buying a 500, the buyer has all the leverage.

you don't mention weather it's new or used...private sale or gun store...options?condition?performance center?ammo with it? I picked up a beautiful 460 mag. 8 3/4" (used) barely from my LGS for $850 a few months ago

If new, that's at the lower end of average...

Lightly used, maybe the higher end of average...

I hate to do the old "I got mine for _____" line... But my brother bought the exact 500 you are looking at with a red dot, used but in very good condition with no visible damage or wear for $1000 OTD from our LGS 1 year ago... Can't remember the brand of red dot at the moment, but I remember looking it up and it was $250-$300 depending on where we looked....

I don't think I would pay more than a G for a used X-frame. Not much more will get you brand new and the warrantee...

Paid $925 OTD for my 460v at about the same time....

Also is it a first generation with the muzzle brake on top? Or the new style with the removable insert brake? The newer style tends to have a touch more value. Either way If it's used it's a touch high if it's new pretty good price.

500 price

Just looked at one last Saturday for $950, was $1000 at a LGS. Used if you count firing 10 rounds through it. Has the box and all of the paperwork including the original BOS and what's left a box of ammo. The 500 is about 3 years old and in mint condition. They have been trying to sell it for 8-9 months. Owner of the shop said he could go for less if a cash buyer wanted it.

I bought one once for $900 barely shot . I traded it and am looking again in about the range of the OP that is the price brand new...

WELCOME TO THE FORUM. SJshootr IS ON THE MONEY. BARELY USED .500 MAGNUMS ARE PLENTIFUL. I WOULD OFFER THE SELLER $900. IN CASH--WHICH YOU SHOULD HAVE IN YOUR POCKET TO FAN OUT IN FRONT OF HIM. TELL HIM THAT IT'S ALL THAT YOU HAVE TO SPEND, AND SEE HOW YOU DO. GOOD LUCK…...

That's a shame I fire 50 rounds a week out of mine.
