Hello All,

Will be loading 42 to 45 grains of H110 to propel a 325 grain 501 cassull alloy lead bullet in my new acquired S&W 500 8.375". Bullet is 325 grain TCBB from PENN BULLETS with crimp grove rated to 2100 fps.

I've read everywhere that H110 needs a very strong crimp. I only have the LEE 3 DIE SET (single stage crimp + seat). Can it (single stage crimp + seat) provide enough roll crimp for max loads of H110? I have an Redding Profile Crimp Die on order but it wont come in on time for this weekend.

I've loaded 50 rounds with Trailboss and crimp looks strong but I dont know if I need an even stronger crimp... Anyone can post a photo to a "STRONG CRIMP" so I can compare if I need even more??

i load a lot of 500 mag with the RCBS 3 die set...no problems at all...crimp is plenty strong...a question i have is why start out at the max load?you should work up to that

I will start with 42 grains. I read that anything with H110 is powerful enough to need super strong crimp. I will reload 50 round and shoot them one by one to start and check OALs to make sure bullets not moving. The Lee Crimp/Seater makes a very nice roll crimp and the fact that the bullet has a deep seating - I think it'll be OK.

I don't recommend "working up" H110 loads anyway. It is a max powder only unlike any other I've ever dealt with. Results will be all over the place of you download more than about 3%.
Your crimp needs to only be tight enough to hold the bullets in place from the recoil of the ones previously shot in the cylinder. Your Lee dies will do a great job in doing this.

Where did you get the load data of 43 to 45 grains of H110?

It appears that is from the Hodgdons data on line, but that is for a Barnes XPB which is not the same as the lead bullet you are loading.

The load data is probably not the same.

I crimp enough so I get no bullet jump in live rounds in the fired cylinder. I use WW 296 and load it full power with mag primer and firm crimp.
