Sorry to have taken so long to get back.
Quick answer, to save reading the rest below: No, haven't messed with it, and am no closer to doing so.
I have been unable to make myself start cutting on a 3/4"/50 yard M41.
What appealed was making a roughly 5" light "field type" barrel with a threaded muzzle.
Other things:
1. I do have an extra heavy barrel with the old M52 rear sight, so the M41 could be restored to a standard look, if needed.
2. I already have a rather unique older 7-3/8" barrel M41 with a threaded muzzle -will post a photo whenever I figure out how.
3. I already have several other models of threaded barrel .22 autos; it's a case of always wanting something else (Gun people).
4. The whole project would be out of the question if I didn't have "several" other M41's. (Is there actually such a thing as too many?)
5. I still want to test the "bulged" barrel with some high end ammo's; might have to get to a ransom rest to be sure at that level.
You’ll figure it out…I’d be in no hurry with your options. I had a 41 with an original 5” field barrel, it was odd that it was mounted on the gun and no other barrel was included. I bought it new sometime around 1972 or 73. It’s a nice set up.
