52 no dash ?

Finally found a 52no dash and I have a question.

The action on the 52 is supposed to be da like the m39 it has a lock out screw that holds it in sa.

Where is this screw and are there any issues with this system?

There is a allen head screw in the frame beside the trigger you'll see with the slide off. This will adjust pre-travel and when removed or screwed all the way into the frame allows double action. You do want to be aware the extractors were a weak spot on the 52, 52-1 and replacements are hard to come by.

I did get an extractor from Brownells a few years ago. I am keeping it as insurance which means I probably will never need it.

There is a -1 and a -2 in my man cave and I am fortunate to have an extra extractor for each.

Suggest you DO NOT mess with the screw to go to DA - getting it back can be a real challange - and may not get back to a good trigger pull.

I have no idea how long I have been shooting my model 52.

You always hear how allegedly fragile a part is once parts are harder to get. So I ordered a spare way back when. I also picked up a complete extra top end and 5 spare barrels over the years.

So far I have not needed any of it. I hardly shoot it, compared to the old days. So last year I sold off most of my spare barrels here on the Forum but I kept the complete top end.

Then I had to go an add an engraved -1. The price was too good to walk away.

I played with the idea of going DA/SA on the 52, not for any reason, but because it could be done. Fortunately I left it alone keeping it as the exquisite target pistol that I bought.

he only thing I did do is convert 6 or 8 of my magazines over so they would hold 6+ rounds of ammunition. It allowed me to sneak the 52 in where it normally would not have been allowed.

I used to own a M52 no dash and have played with the DA lockout screw. I may have just been lucky but I didn't have any problem in backing it out to release the trigger to pop forward. I didn't have to remove the screw. I really didn't have any problem in resetting it to single action. However, Tom and others have much more experience with this than me.

Like rck281 and others, I too had to try adjusting the trigger double action screw so that the Model 52 I have would have the double action feature. (Just because I could!) I did it, played with it a while, and returned the screw to its original position without any problem.

The fit and finish on the early Model 52 pistols is amazing. (Mine is the fifth one made, and retains it original box and papers. Even the "giant" box is unique to the early pistols.)

Good to hear others had no problem going to DA and back to SA. Maybe my bad luck? Got it back after a fair amount of effort, but trigger never felt quite the same.
