I picked up a set of aftermarket 53 inserts and they are off being cut to fit a 22 mag. Has anyone else tried this?

Thanks

Not a bad thing while you shooting and reloading I guess. But removing them to shoot Jet rounds could be "fun".

I know the inserts (except the very earliest production) have a finger nail cutout in the rim of the insert to get stuck cases out of the insert.

But how do you get stuck inserts out of the chambers?

Take a NEW .22 cal bronze/brass brush and push into the insert.Ounce it starts to exit reverse it and it will exit.

Aren't the inserts rimed? If nothing else works and you don't want to destroy the insert by running a tap in it or bend ejector rod or damage extractor by whacking on it.

Make a small expander to go in the insert. Take a piece of 3/8 " round stock, use a small stubby center drill to make a tapered hole in one end ad run the taper portion of the center drill in enough to make the start of opening about 1/4". Then drill through with a hole just big enough for a #4 machine screw to go thorough. Turn the end you used center drill on so about 1" of it is .220 so it will slide inside the insert. Then use a thin Dremel cutting wheel to split about 1/2 of the .220 end. Cut the entire piece to about 1 3/4". Make a set of notches in the portion that is still 3/8 OD. Then take a 2" long #4 flat head screw and put the head in the .220 split end after making sure the OD of the head is .220. Put a washer and nut on the end sticking out of the other end. Now stick it in the insert. Go though the cylinder throat to hold the screw head and tighten up the nut, pulling the taper of the screw head into the taper made by the center drill in the split end expanding it to lock it into insert. Use notches in 3/8 end to pull out insert.

Never done it on a 22 insert, but I have done basically the same thing with a small sleeve.

I am having a very competent gunsmith do it. Thank you.
