Sgt Preston here. I bought a new 539 that had been in locked in a safe for 20 years. It was brand new, never fired , in the origonal box, with all the paper work & tools. I bought it about 2 years ago from a local gun dealer & I paid $475.00. That being said, it's one of my very favorite guns. It shoots well, functions perfectly. So the $500.00 asking price that you mention is not too far off. If you like the gun & it fits your hand as perfectly as mine did, I'd talk to the store owner directly & make a lower (but not insulting) offer ($425-$450.00) & see where it goes. Hope this helps.
