581 no dash price check

Hi,
I have a friend who has a S & W 581 no dash revolver with a 4 inch barrel. He is interested in selling it and has asked me what I think it is worth. It has no box or papers. I don't know how to accurately rate a revolver percentage wise, but there is no blue wear at all except for about 1/4 inch on each side of the the end of the barrel due to a holster. The grips are in excellent condition, and the action is very smooth and locks up nice and tight. I don't have interest in it for myself, but told him that I would put out an inquiry on this forum to try to get some input as to what the value might be. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think anything under $500 would not be unreasonable.

I think someone was selling one in the $450 range recently in the Classifieds. Don't remember the condition, dash number, etc.

I did a search for it and couldn't find anything. Maybe the recent changes caused previous ads to disappear.

I picked up a NIB 681 for $450 last year.

For what it's worth, I **think** the M581 is more rare than the M681.

That's kind of why I asked the question on price as I thought maybe the 581 had some value because there probably weren't as many made as the 586 etc. Also, thanks for the posting deercop and the url to a used one for sale. The one that my friend has for sale is in much nicer condition than the one in the photo, but of course he doesn't have the box with it.
