I have a very early 581 (blue) no dash with a "AAA" serial number prefix. All original. No recall work done. It has the box and papers, and is in excellent condition. The completed sales I've seen haven't been much help in determining value, so I'm seeking your opinions. Thanks in advance.The gun is NOT for sale.

That is one beautiful model 581. I too have an early AAA prefix with all the goodies. I have another in shooter condition and have been thinking about selling this one. But I do like looking at it.

I don't know if the purchase price of a nickel 581 may be instructive. But I bought this one today for $850. It came with presentation targets which while not period correct I like better than the black rubbers usually found on L Frames.

I think $850 is a decent price for that package. I'm no help with this nickel 581 because I can't remember what I paid for it.

Based on what I've seen, the asking prices for the nickel guns are running from $1k to $1.5k, so your price seems reasonable.

I recently consigned with a big seller and sold two model 581’s on GB last month. A no dash nickel in excellent condition with original box and papers, no cleaning rod and a 581-1 blue in good condition. Both sold for $745 apiece. I thought the nickel would go higher.

I’m not a nickel fan either, but I have an inherited nickel 10-8 that has the sweetest DA action. It’s incredibly slick and fast! While I won’t go out of my way to acquire another nickel revolver, I’m keeping the 10-8
