I'm no expert on the 36 or 31. But, I can tell you they both have the flat side latch style, and are both numbered models, so I am guessing they might be from the early 1960s? And nickel finish is less common than blued.

The grips on the Model 36 are after market and made by Jay Scott.

The serial number on your Chiefs Special Model 36 along with the 7th flat thumbpiece date it to early 1966.

The number 50698 you show on the yoke is an assembly number; you'll find the same number stamped on the lower left side of the grip frame (remove the grips to see it). The other stampings on the yoke are fitter's, assembler's, or inspector's stamps.

Your Model 31 no dash is built on the New I-Frame. The subsequent model would be the 31-1, which was built on the J-Frame. Before S&W assigned model numbers to their revolvers in 1957, it was named .32 Regulation Police. It is chambered in .32 S&W Long, but can also shoot the shorter .32 S&W. Yours appears to be pretty nice, and without a hands on inspection, I would value it between $500 and $600, and would estimate it's production to be in the 1959 - 1960 range.
