586-4+?

Hi all,

I'm the proud owner of a 686-6+ which I got for an absolute steal, and am using as a range gun. I'm now (much more passively) shopping around for a 686-4+, though I'm in CA and am expecting a long wait.

I'm not devoted to the 686 look over the 586, but can't seem to find nearly as much information on dash and production history for the 586.

Was a 586-4+ ever made?

Also, is dash history for the 586 the same as for the 686?

A 586-4+ was never made. According to SCSW, there was a 586+ (no dash, apparently) made from 2000 to 2004. It had the lock. The dash history is the same for the 686 and 586 up to -4. Then the 586 had a -5 for product shipped to Brazil. The 586-6 is the same as a 686-5. The -6 was the last 586. S&W quit making the 586 in 1999. At the time (mid to late '90's) there was a big push at S&W to drop blue guns, across all model lines, and focus solely on stainless. After that time blue guns became a kind of special/limited run kind of thing, which is still the case today. For that reason I doubt there where very many 586+ made.

Thanks for the info! You've told me everything I wanted to know. I'll be keeping an eye out for a 586-4, and am more and more feeling like I need to pick up an SCSW.
