Anybody know if SW makes a 3-inch 586 barrel? I have a 586 with an 8 3/8 incher that needs replacing and I want to go with a shorter barrel.

You will have to call them for a 3", however they list the 4 1/8 in the parts book.

I only looked for the blue 586.
Sure the 686 they make a 3 inch in stainless.

Sure the L is a heavier, beefer frame. The Ks were discontinued because of issues using a steady diet of 357 magnums.

The boreline axis-to-cylinder axis is greater on the L frame than on the K frame.
The barrel shank ("forcing cone") end of the barrel is thicker on the L frame than the K frame.
The cylinders are obviously different diameters, with more material between chambers on the L frame than the K frame.
For comparison purposes, the L frame is comparable to the Colt 41 frame size of the Python and Trooper series.
