I'm looking for a replacement factory height front sight for my 586-8 revolver.
Why? My old eyes need something that's easier to pick up and focus on than the factory sight.
I love the Trijicon Bright and Tough Night Sights on my 3rd Gen pistols and hoped to get a similar front sight for the revolver but unfortunately Trijicon has stopped making front sights for S&W revolvers.
As a matter of fact they just stopped making sights for 3rd Gen S&W pistols and I think I got the last set available for my 4006.
Anyway, suggestions?

How about fiber optic?

How about a fiber optic front sight? Check out SDM Super Sights. I have one on my Model 686-6 and really like it...it's very easy to see, easy to install, and reasonably priced. Good luck!

OP, can't speak for you, but I can tell you my eyes "like" green better than orange/red.

You might want to go to a gun store, ask to look at some handguns with fiber optic sights (FO sights) and see what looks better to you - red or green.

I also like a smaller FO diameter. My XDM 5.25" 9MM has this huge red/orange FO front sight (talking FO rod diameter) and I hated it. Looked like a basketball floating out there between me and the target. A few years later I got a CZ Tactical Sport with a smaller sized green FO front sight and I thought it was pretty nice. Easy to see without overloading the rear sight, the target and my eyes.

Just do a little checking out of what looks best to you and then buy the color/size you want.
