Since its release last year at the SHOT show, I havent heard one person mention the 586 classic. Are these things selling? I really like the concept and I hope its working well for the company. I wish more companies would jump on this bandwagon. The main reason I am asking is because this is my next "planned" purchase. I hope it isnt taken off the market because of poor response.

I've seen a few sitting at LGS, they have not been selling around here. What I think it is there are lots of 586 on the used market, you can find deals on them and still get one under the price of a new one with out a lock.

I have seen only one at the local gun shops around here. I have been considering getting one as I like the blued finish over the stainless of the 686.

UPDATE:
Today I bought the one and only 586, 4" from the only LGS that had one in stock. Put about 50 rounds thru it right after I picked it up. Looks like this may be a keeper.

I've seen a couple of posters here showing off their new 586 Classics.

I held one in my hand at the LGS and it was very nicely made.

I'd buy one if I had the cash to spare. I'm saving for other guns on the list.

Living in California has it's advantages - like the 80 degree temps we are having in the San Francisco Bay Area. But buying guns is NOT one of them! We can't get anything unless it's on the roster.

Only the 586-7 (SKU 163567 and 163568) are on the list. But the numbers on the S&W site don't match those. After some pretty extensive Googling, the 16356* numbers don't seem to even exist at all. Never have seen one come up on the major auction sites. Only the current S&W numbers.

Can anybody shed some light on this little mystery?

I bought the 4' and 6" 586 Classic. Don't care about the lock. Both are beautiful and tack drivers. I prefer blue over stainless steel. I work at a gun store and people seem to be interested in semi auto black guns. Revolvers are slow movers as well as 1911's ( to expensive ). Black guns are cheaper than S&W revolvers and 1911's

I bought a 4" 586-8, a fantastic pistol. Good luck finding one. In these parts the 6" always sell out first with the 4" close behind. The IL has not been a issue for me; and after the many problems for those with inquisitive children in the house, I'am glad it's there. I also hope this line is a success for the company in that I still want a 6"er.

LGS nearest me has sold a small but steady stream of 586 Classics since the first of the year, 6" and 4". I've been tempted to get a 586, but I've been buying K-frames. Around here, there seems to be a small but definite trend back in the direction of revolvers, although most sales are plastic striker-fireds.

A LGS near me got two of the 4" models in. They are really nice guns -- fit and finish are very good and the grips feel great in the hand. Really fine guns.

The LGS got two, both sold within a week or so.
Both 4', they got another within two weeks, got put on layaway same day.
Around here used L frames go fast so I can see the demand.
I hope it works well for them but given the chance I would take an original over a classic any day.

I bought a 4" 586 Classic (586-8) from a shop in PA.
My favorite gun.

I haven't seen em at any of my LGS, even used 586s are rare.
I asked my main dealer/range and they said they'd be getting them around December
