586 no dash

I picked this up awhile back at our local gun shop. Not sure of the year but it's a 586 no dash. Usually prefer 4 inch or less revolvers but couldn't find a 586 in condition I wanted so snatched this up as soon as I saw it.

That looks like a dandy. My memory fails me, if the 586 had the same recall the 686 did for hammer nose bushing. If done it will have a "M" stamped on the frame in the yoke area by the s/n. You can check with the S&W website for the info. That looks like a safe queen.

The 586 was (is) under the recall. 686, 686-1; 586, 586-1; 681, 681-1; and 581, 581-1. If it shoots Magnums with no cylinder bind or lockup, and does not have the "M" stamp, don't worry about it. If it has the "M" stamp, than it has had the modification work done.

I still use my 586. Bought it new back in 83 when I was a Patrolman. It been many miles on my side both on and off duty. Still have the box and tools for it.

You will like the Patridge front sight. Most came with the red ramp that is forged with the barrel, rather than the pinned Patridge that you have. It makes for a much better sight picture, at least for me. Very nice.

Haven't heard about the recall. I have a 686-1 also. Will have to check it out. Plan to shoot this one soon.

While I have both 586's and 686's, I am partial to the 4in 586 in blue. I do wish I still had my old blue 586 6in I traded for something or other long time back...man, that thing could shoot!

I purchased the same gun (mine does have the red ramp front sight though) and it was recalled for the firing pin bushing. I was not having any problems with mine but sent it in anyway. The factory did the upgrade and stamped an M in the yoke area of the Frame. Has been a sweet shooter for 30 years now!

Hey, it looks good to me! I have a 686, 6". My 586 no dash is a 4" I got it in a trade from a shooting buddy that I met on the Forum. Sorry, nothing fancy about my pics. What is the technical name for the grips that it is sporting??? I got the from my FFL for $15. Thanks, Bob
