I recently reported the purchase of a PC 586 L Comp. It just occurred to me to ask if anyone has had any experience with Smith putting some othe type of finish on this model. Its black now, can they bead blast it? I wouldn't want nickel but i do wonder how the existing finish will holdup?

Thanks

I've got a 586 L-Comp (2004 run) and I love the gun but, IMO, the original finish sucks, very cheesy for a PC gun. I had a local 'smith do some work on it for me including parkerizing it. I like the look better and it is a durable and easy to care for finish.

586 PC Finish

Thanks. I don't understand why the PC treated the finish as almost an after thought on tis great gun. Anyway, i think i will call smith and see if i have options. They are right up the street from me so i like to try to do things there when i can.

I just had S&W put a bead blast blue finish on my old 586 no dash, I really like the look and feel, I'm just having a hard time finding the right grips to compliment the revolver. I'm actually thinking Pachmyer's may be the ticket.

Smith 357 thats sweet. The picture angle makes it hard for me to tell is it like a matt blued finish? It almost looks black. Will it hold up any better than a bluedgun?

Yes the gun looks black, they called it blued and it does look blue at certain angles in certain lighting conditions, but 99% of the time it just looks black. I'm not sure how well it will hold up over time, I just got it back from S&W and have not shot it yet.
