586 Purchase

Hello All,
Just picked up this 586 the other day at a local pawn and wanted to reach out with a couple of questions for those of you who know much more than I do about S&W.

586 no dash, 4", no modified stamp, adjustable rear site w/white outline.

- The grips have stamped on the inside 11/1981, would/could
this be the ship date and the original grips? Serial# AAC30XX

- Thoughts on the condition based on pictures?

- Ultimately what matters is if the buyer (me in this case) is
happy with the price and what was purchased. I am very
happy, but am interested to know if I did ok compared to the
market value for this gun. I paid $700.00 out the door.

You will really enjoy your new shooter. Very accurate and very well balanced. Mine is a no dash produce 4/82 SN AAE78XX. I really like the 4" barrel set up. An example such as yours will only get harder to find as time goes on. You did well!! Enjoy!!

I agree, great gun, good price - but that picture must be distorted some because on my PC that looks like a longer barrel than 4". Is it me/my computer/or what?

Picture could be a little distorted, I had to modify pic to get the size smaller. It is a 4in.

That thing is a complete piece of junk! It's likely to explode the first time you attempt to fire it. I'll save you the pain and suffering, all you have to do is put it in a plain brown box and send it to me for... proper disposal.


In all seriousness, the L-frame S&W revolvers are fine revolvers. Usually very accurate and always durable. Since yours is a no-dash and unmodified, test fire with some full power ammo. If the primers show signs of flowing into the firing pin hole, you might want to send it back to the mother ship for modification. If it does not exhibit this issue, don't worry about it.


$700? A few years ago I'd say you got robbed, but these days that is the going price for one in excellent condition.

Around here $700.00 is a great price these days. I have a dash 3 and would not sell it for $700.00 these days.
