Hi Guys,

New member here with what could be a bone head question, but can anyone tell me what years the Model 586 were in production. I just won one on gunbroker (police turn in) for $295. I don't have the serial number yet and don't know if it is a dash anything. Just wondering about the years of production.

SCSW3 says 1980-1999, but I think some special runs of 586s were made in the early 2000s. A decent police trade-in at ~$300 sounds pretty fair to me. Hope you get a nice one.

I looked at your gun on the GunBroker's 'ended auctions' list and found the one you bought (same handle as you used here!).

If you look at the pictures, it has a card that gives the S/N (ACT4345):

So, to help you out, I looked it up in my SC0S&W (3rd Ed.) and ACT4345 was produced somewhere between Jan - Oct, 1983.

And, because the 586-1 didn't come out until 1986, yours would be a 586 dash nothing!

You gotta like a guy that likes 586's. Sounds like a great deal. I paid 500.00 for one,that as the general says, was mint. 300 sounds like a great deal. Welcome on,Trey.

My wife dry fired a 586 no dash at a pawn shop a few year ago, and it came home with us. One of the best revolvers made, I prefer the trigger action to our 1968 Python (!)

It's a fairly rare gun - 686s are more common. I bought a 686 when they first came out, wasn't all that impressed. Didn't even know there was a 586.
If you can get a 586 for $295, snag it.

Someone needs to mention the recall. I'd tell him about it, but I'm too tired right now (sorry).
