Rattlesnake

I don't go walking in the underbrush in Florida unless it is cold and winter where I can see where I am walking. I don't kill snakes unless they would harm me or my dogs but shot a big rattle snake with my 410 that was heading under the back deck. One of us had to go.

Dang looks like it swallowed a rabbit…

Remember that rattlesnakes help with the rodent population control. If they are close to the house, well..... another rattle for the collection.

Helpful hint from someone who hunted Wyoming for over a dozen years...

Running a tire over them doesn't cut it. If you're on a gravel road, slam on the brakes just before you hit 'em and grind 'em to bits.
Slamming on the brakes on the hwy works too........I have popped "em" open by just running over them and backing up.

Never saw a whole bunch of any snakes at one time. We were cutting soybeans and we had a big old white oak stickig in the field...Went and got a chainsaw. got up in the bucket on the tractor and cut the limb off at the tree. When that limb hit the ground there was almst 30 blacksnakes denned up in there. creeped me out. Used that bucket to push that limb into the woods. They were gone in about an hour...as far as I could see from the field...November 1st...pretty cool weather

I was hunting in southern AZ in 1999. I was walking with my hunting partner trying to glass some cours deer. Walking through some wooded area, there was a fallen tree across the trail. Instead of stepping over the trunk, I hopped on top of it and heard a loud hiss. It was a Green Mohave rattler on the other side sunning itself. I was carrying a S&W 645 in a shoulder holster. I quickly took careful aim and let fly a 230 grain Win HP at that Mohave. Took his head right off and was nowhere to be found. My buddy had no idea what was going on when he heard the shot, but once he saw the rattler, he got the picture. Glad I didn’t just step over.

I was warned about Geen Mohave Rattlers when lived Ridgecrest CA

Mostly western diamondbacks here. I've killed several in the yard, but it's been a couple years now since I've seen one around the house. While hiking I run into mostly rock rattlesnakes - smallish and gray.

I give them their space on the trail and let them be. They help control the rodent population.

That was the one I remembered when I read some of the above posts. He also had a bale full of snakes that was impressive. We lost a good one with Chip.

My wife was the snake lady where she worked, FWP, and moved them away from people in the State Park. I generally let them be unless they are close to the house.

Sure don’t see anything like that up here in Maine.
Also don’t have pythons, alligators, scorpions, hurricanes, and tornados.
Buy we do have snow and cold weather. I can live with that!

I'll trade you a mess of chiggers for a cold spell and 12 inches of snow.

There was a time when here in Oz - where we have 20 of the worlds worst species - we could shoot a snake. In fact most people living in rural areas kept a 410 behind the kitchen door in readiness. Today however it's illegal and we are required to catch and relocate...(n)

Don't know about the other kinds but the timber rattlers are good eating. Easy to clean/skin and cut into section for frying in a skillet.

I think it was someone on this forum a few years back posted a picture from where they lived. It was a rattlesnake den with hundreds of snakes in it!! I would’ve immediately had a panic attack if I saw it.
