I happen to be on call today at the hospital. I work in Knoxville, but I live in Maryville. My drive home allows me to go by the new TN plant. There happens to be one lone residence still in font of the S&W property. It is a cute little cottage that needs some upkeep. While driving past the house, I noticed a fire has started to engulf several trees and is rapidly spreadind through some under brush. I could not see anyone outside the house tending the fire. I turned my Bronco around and pulled into the residence. Another passer by, a young lady, also stopped to notify the owner of the home that a fire had started.

There was no answer at the front door. I heard music around the back of the home, so I made my way there. I seen the owner through the basement window. I knocked until I got his attention and we made our way to the fire. I asked the owner if he could get a hose down to the fire and if he had a rake to remove some of the dry leave fuel fromt he driveway. The young lady raked away a lot of the dry leaves. I made my way around the perimeter stomping out the ground spread. The owner was able to get a lot of the trees drenched and the fire slowed. When I had the perimeter secured, I took over the water hose. The young lady had called the fire dept. They showed up with the big hoses and made quick work of the burned trees.

My wife had ordered me a new pair of Keen shoes the other day, but they have been delayed several times in the mail. I am glad they were, because I would have destroyed them today. Do you ever wonder why you take certain routes? I am glad I was driving through there today.
