Did Smith and Wesson offer the 586 with a 4” factory ported barrel? Don’t know much about the older revolvers.

I think most of the 586's were 4", but I don't know about ported ones.

Most likely aftermarket porting. If the ports have a trapezoid shape, then it was done by Mag-na-Port. If they are just slots or holes, could have been done by anyone.

I did a quick search through the SCSW 5th Ed., and only found a couple of examples of ported Model 586s...and only one was 4". There was a 1989 special production run of 4" 586-3 with a half-lug ported barrel (PC 103591 ). The Performance Center released a couple versions of the 3" ported 586 L Comp in the early 2000s (PC 170317FC 6-rds and 170170 7-rds), but that's all I could find. As stansdds says, it was probably an aftermarket porting job and hopefully done by Mag-Na-Port.
