saw this 2-tone & wondering if this is a factory 2 tone or done by the owner?. i really like the way this looks.

That is a 5903 SSV (short slide variation). It's a somewhat rare variant where they used a 6904 slide on a 5903 frame. I just started a thread about them the other day. I also love the two-tone look and have a few Smith 3rd Gens set up that way.

The SSV is a factory produced series (see the post above this one) but you can certainly make your own as the slides are interchangeable within the same manual of arms (DA/SA slide on a DA/SA frame / DAO slide on a DAO frame) and of course in the same caliber.

My Favorite Gun
I love the 5903's, (the alloy frame make them lighter to carry) and my favorite gun is the 5903SSV. There is just something beautiful to me about it, the two tone finish and especially the first model trigger guard, which mine have. The only things I didn't like about the 5903SSV were the straight grips and the bobbed hammer. I like a hammer spur on my guns, and that was easy enough to fix. -Ed.

FWIW, I used to own a 5904, and carried it as a
"traveling companion" for several years. It is a great pistol, always reliable and smaller than it first appears. I compared it once to a KelTec P-11 nf found such little difference thay it made no difference.
Great series of pistols, still around and not too expensive compared to some...

This gun is the Lew Horton 5967, 500 made in 1990, product code 103048.
Edit. My bad, it's an SSV. The difference is the black vs silver slide release and the bobbed vs silver spur hammer. Of course one has a steel frame and one an alloy but one can't see that on pics.

So do you folks prefer the straight back grips or the curved ones? I have the curved ones and have thought of picking up a set of the straights to see if they fit better in my meat hooks.
