My 5906 came with 15 round mags that worked great. But I realized the gun shop had not checked them and I had illegal mags since I live in CA. I returned them to the shop and they gave me 10 round mags which are terrible. The springs make a twag sound half way through the clip and lead to rounds not ejecting. The spent round will be in the barrel with another live round behind it. I bought other mags which have less frequent feed issues. But this is not acceptable.

Finally I was able to purchase one mec gar (which I have not had a chance to use yet) mag off of ebay but every one else is always sold out.

Suggestions on what mags work the best and how to find them. Is there any way to fix the ones I have. For the last 2 months I can't find a descent replacement.

I'd take them back and sell the 15 factory mag and get some MecGar or factory 10 rounders.

If they are ProMag I would dump all of them. Promags are generally garbage.

The mags are promag and the others I am not sure because the have no markings on them. I will post pictures when I have a chance

Should I have kept the OEM mags and put blocks in them to make them 10 rounders, maybe that was my mistake. Otherwise I cant even find 10 round original S&W mags. Maybe at the gun show next month in Ontario? The one mec gar I found was so random that it was actually available. I think I saw a original on ebay but it was $85

If the gun is leaving an empty casing in the chamber you may have issues other than a possible problem with the magazines.
I would check the extractor for damage (with a magnifier) and check extractor tension. Give the pistol a good cleaning and check the chamber for dirt and pitting. (Also with a magnifier) Replace the recoil spring with an OEM spring, or a quality aftermarket spring.
Check the attached photo for some troubleshooting info from the manual.........

If the magazine is not feeding properly due to spring tension being wrong (to tight) the would it be possible for the next round to feed before the spend shell has a chance to eject. Thus the round and shell getting pushed up against each other.

And thank you I will check the out the internal parts for damage or wear. My thoughts are that the gun fired perfect the last time I went shooting with the original clips. Then the very next time my issues begin and continue to happen

A non ejected spent casing is almost always caused by a damaged, worn, or severely fouled extractor. If there is a serious crud buildup in the extractor hook, or behind the extractor which will not allow it to pivot properly, it will not function properly. Extractor springs can also be an issue on S&W autos....

I had to look and wait.....

I had to look and wait, but there's no need to pay that much for one. I finally came across one in an LGS between $30/35.

I just got an OEM 10 round for 20 bucks at a local shop. First one I have ever seen. Its diabolical how it is designed not to be converted to a 15 round mag. Test functioned ok though.
Good luck in your mag hunt.
Jim
