As a follow up to my post in the new member's forum, here are the pics of my newest editions.

Overall, I have to say that I am very pleased with the cosmetic condition of the guns. Naturally, there is some minor holster rash and a few tiny nicks/scratches but nothing that really draws the eye. When I field stripped the 6906, there wasn't even a hint of carbon residue:D
The 5906 had a little residue but cleaned up real nice.

The only problem now is having to wait until the weekend after this coming one to be able to test them out...

Very nice, congrats. I picked up a 6906 from CDNN and was very pleased.

Both handguns appear to be very nice and you still have less into them than some new plastic guns. You should put the 6906 slide and barrel on the 5906 frame and make yourself a poorman's SSV (short slide variant). Of course, that leaves you with a compact framed gun with a gigantic slide and barrel (there is no name for that). But seriously, nice guns and thanks for the heads up on the condition of these trade-ins.

Mine was in about the same condition I recd mine yesterday.

The 6906 has a number stamped on the right side slide, barrel and frame.

This is reminiscent of some European protocols in numbering pistols. Are there any importer marks elsewhere on the gun? Any idea of where the gun has been in the past?

I have seen a lot of 3913/14s that were surplused by foreign police agencies and reintroduced into the US. If all the BATFE rules are followed, there will be the name of an importer stamped somewhere on the frame.

The guns came from california Dept of Corrections prorale I believe.

I was also very pleased with the 5906 I recently purchased from ZANDERS, which is a wholesaler similar to CDNN, but located in Sparta, IL. The seller said these had been "factory reconditioned."

Three of my friends also purchased 5906's from ZANDERS for $299 at the same time, and all were in excellent condition with new grip panels. Functioning has been 100%.

I suspect they were all from some S&W police trade-in deal.

If I didn't have to get an SP101 off layaway, I'd snap one of those 6906s up. They take the same mags as my KelTec.
I might get one anyway. That's what credit is for, right?:)

New factory grips are still available from MidwayUSA in both curve back and straight styles. Factory grips are thinner than the Hogues but are plastic. I have smaller hands and it does make a difference. It also makes the gun look nicer.

can anyone purchase from Zanders?? or do you have to be a dealer?

Things worked out so that I actually got to go to the range today. Put approx. 100 rounds through the 6906 and 150 through the 5906. They easily digested all rounds(stanky S&B and Fed cheapies) without any issues. The 6906 does shoot a little low as many have reported but not so much that it is annoying. I'm not an expert on what an ideal trigger pull is but both guns seemed decent to me. With the 5906, if I did my job, the round hit where it was supposed to. It is more accutrate than my ability. I love the meaty hogue grip. I also really love the heft and how it soaks up so much recoil. If it sounds like I'm already partial to the 5906...:D. I really enjoyed shooting this gun.

To wrap things up, I am really blown away by the amount of gun that you get for the price these things are going for. The trade in 5906 at $300 has got to be one of the best deals going right now.

...which was why I immediately bought a second one from CDNN.

Social scientists are trying to determine how many guns are "enough guns". They don't have a number yet. ;)
