I have been shooting a Sig P226ST for five years and just switched to the 5906. I bought it used and it came with the Hogue rubber grips. I shot an IDPA match and had a little difficulty on mag changes both reaching the mag release and the slide release. I never did this before with my Sig but I used my left thumb to release the slide. That may solve that problem but I an still interested in the stock plastic grips, preferably with the straight backstrap. Is this available? I did not see them on the S&W website. Also, I think I have seen pictures on this forum of an extended mag release. Can someone help with the availability of this part. Thanks.

The straight backstrap grip is S&W part #20361, the oversized mag release is #10383. I don't think the oversized mag release would be legal in IDPA, but the Performance Center did make a extended one at one time. Your best bet would be to call S&W and try to get through to the PC.

The other thing that you can do with the mag release is unthread it a few turns to extend it. Usually the button is screwed down flush with the screw. It can be backed off 2 or 3 turns to extend it.

I was told that part #10383 is a Performance Center part (the extended mag release) and is not for sale. Am I out of luck or does anybody else make such an after market part?

10383 is the part you need ... it is the same as on a 745.

That is how I ordered mine .
