Does anybody know if S&W or anybody else for that matter does good accurizing work on this pistol? I have nice one I would like to tighten up it's group capability (and no, it's not me, many have shot it with the same results) and maybe make a good bullseye gun of it. Thanks for any help with this.

Your best bet, IMHO, is to go to a PC model. I can't be cost effective to try and upgrade a standard 5906.

I believe the factory standard was more than 4"@25yds before it was considered unacceptable from a 5906. You would probably be way ahead to find a 952 or a PPC9 for Bullseye. Both are a bargin compared to building a comparable gun.

Get a 952 and don't look back! They are that good...you will never regret it.

+1

Once I shot my boss' PC952 I had to have one. I had never had such an easy time blowing the bulls-eye out of a target before!

The 5906 is not designed as a bullseye gun and is not capable of becoming one at any reasonable cost and with any hope of retaining its original identity.

The bullseye version of the 5906 is the single action 952. It really is capable and at far less cost than attempting to convert the 5906.

The PC did make some seriously accurized 5906s, but they started with PC machining and rail dimensions on the frame and the lock up and unlocking speed and dimensions were changed I think, and they were just "different animals" even if they might have looked like the production 5906.

If you want to keep the 5906 you could try a trigger job to lighten it up. It will probably help your groups to some degree and will cost around $150.

Thank you all for your replies and help. Would love to get a PC 952 but that is just way out of the price range. Several fellow shooters have Kimber target models ($900 price range) and all shoot very well. Might have to go with one of those, but I do like my Smith's.

Before you spend a bunch of money, you might ask a local gunsmith to re crown your barrel, and step up a few pounds on your recoil spring.

That helped my standard 5906 a bit, but it is not in the same class as my DPA 5906. Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

I second the re-crown the barrel that (18DAI) was talking about I am in the same boat as you on my 5906 and was looking into makeing it shoot tighter so I called "Chestnut Mountain Sports" Karl the owner says with the work he can do on my 5906 he can make it shoot much tighter. The main thing is re-crowning the barrel.

I don't know the exact web sight off hand but google "Chestnut Mountain Sports" and give them a call.
