5906 slide on 5906TSW

Hello,

I am looking to purchase a slide explicitly for the purpose of having it milled to accept a red dot sight. This would be for a 5906TSW I recently purchased. My problem, or problems, are that I don't know what is interchangeable. There is a gun shop in my city that sells almost every 5906 part but I would like to have more information before I go in and try my hand at purchasing anything. Will any slide work?

The slides and frames on the TSW guns were milled as a set. Regular 5906 frames won't fit and I expect that it would be random if a TSW frame would fit and function without issue.

I have a mix of TSW and regular production 3rd Gens and none of the slides will interchange.

As a general rule, the non-TSW slides will not fit a TSW pistol.

Try one or a few of those and see if any are close to fitting your gun,

I purchased a number of those sets. 5906, Ruger GP-100, Sig P226/229 and something else. Worst case I use the red dots on my fleet of Ruger Mark pistols.

I don't know which of the 2 non adj dovetails it is for on the 3rd gens. I haven't tried yet.

Base model 5906 slides will NOT work on the TSW models.

Only another 5903TSW or 5906TSW slide will be a direct replacement due to S&W making the 9mm and 40 TSW slides of the same design.

However, a 5943TSW or 5946TSW slide will work, but you must replace the Firing Pin Retainer with a manual decocking lever.

Another 5906TSW slide may or may not fit. I would guess most would fit but i had a pair of 5946TSW that accidentally got swapped and first slide went on wrong frame but second slide would not go all the way on first frame - hence i knew they got swapped.
But be aware the TSW were supposedly matched parts barrel, slide, frame so you may see a minor loss of accuracy / repeatability.

The early “Pre-Railed” examples were not co-witnessed. The later “Railed” ones definitely had frames and slides co-witnessed like the PC’s. (Or at least some did for sure.)
