I was looking at some S&Ws in an on-line auction and they had a S&W 5908- 1 , 6 inch. It looked like a 5906, no special markings, just a 6 inch top end. The frame was just marked 5908-1.

Checking the S&W books and the last few "Blue" books and no sign of a 5908-1 6 inch, or any 5908-1 at all.

The gun sold for $375.00 with two mags. and nothing else. Any body out ever heard of the 5908-1 ???? I should have bought this gun, but I had my eye and money on some other S&Ws.

All wise learning about S&W,

5908 not in "The Book".

Maybe a uncatalogued model?

If marked 5908 could be mis stamped?

What online site?

5908-1???????

Well, I rechecked the S&W auto and the photos show a 6 inch top end marked 5908-1, serial number VUV 3437 or 3457.

Just go to Proxbid.com go to home page, go to Firearms area, go to the calander and go to 3-22-12, Cuevas Auction LLC, the public firearms auction, and go to item #361 the S&W 4506, but the gun is marked 4508-1. The gun sold for $395.00. MY Top bid was $375.00.
When looking at the photos, click on "Full Size Page to better see the numbers on the frame.

This gun has me beat, I can't find it any of my S&W books.

Looking for info.

If you click on the full screen image of the model/serial number closeup you'll see it says 4506-1.

Wow!......Another person stole a 4506-1!! ;)

Good on them! :) Great pistols. Regards 18DAI

Good, the mystery has been solved.

Yep $395 is a helluva deal for a 4506-1!

Thanks for the help folks. My old computer just coulden't show the frame numbers that well. I looked at this posting on my son's Apple laptop and then I could see the frame numbers better.

I am kicking myself for not buying that 6 incher. I love longer barrels on autos, I have a 6 inch "Clark Longslide", that is 25 years old and had thousands of rounds down the tube and still shoots great.
Best to all,
