5946 Range Report

I recently purchased a 5946 NOS pistol. This is my 2nd purchase of a 3rd Generation New Old Stock pistol.

And I like this one as much if not more than the first one, a 5906.

I am a newbie to the DAO action of the 3rd Generation pistols. But I'm getting used to it.

I shot the 4043 after I shot the 5946, and it shows.

But I think I did ok.

50 rounds of 124gr Freedom Munitions FMJ fired at 25 feet. No FTF/FTE issues.

Pretty happy with my purchase.

Good find on a great gun, the DA action on those pistols is very nice and it shows by your shooting.

I have both a 5946 and a 5946TSW . One is a NYPD retread , the other one I don't remember . I used to not like the DAO Smith's , but I'm getting used to them . I put one in my range bag by accident one week and I decided to try it . Now I have quite a few more I can take to the range instead of letting them sit in one of my safes .

I have a twin to your 5946. Coincidentally, I had it at the range yesterday. Accurate at 25 yards and flawless operation.

I favor the DAO Third Generation pistols mainly because you only need to instruct or master only one type trigger press.

You're fortunate to have obtained that type of pistol. Good luck with it.

The DAO pistols have a trigger pull that is remarkably similar to S&W J-frame DA triggers. I like the DAO for the same reason as Just Plain Joe, only one trigger action to master.

My FFL just called today and I got the "Proceed" from the local sheriff here in WA state on my 5946TSW. (The feds don't do the approvals here in WA state any more).
Will pick it up on Tuesday. It'll be my first DAO Smith (although I have a couple Smith revolvers.)

It'll be a while before I get to the range. It's an ex "corporate" gun with a Brinks logo on the right slide. Needs a very good cleaning and probably some springs just to be safe.

When I went to do the paperwork after it arrived from the auction, I spied a .45 Chiefs Special, blued, in the case. I've got a CS9 and it was getting lonely...so I'm picking that up as well. I think my gun budget is busted 'till I see a bunch of robins and the tulips blooming in the yard.
