5th Smith...1st Single Stack

There's a few stories surrounding my latest Smith purchase, the most amusing being a local (out-of-touch) shop trying to sell me a worn 3913 (police-issue) for $700.00. The other being that I ended up buying this gem from a customer, after recalling a very old conversation where he said he had "some sorta 39 Smith pistol" for sale.

Anyways...I met him at a local FFL (another interesting story) yesterday to do the ppwk and picked it up this afternoon.

First order of business was to remedy (ahead of time) an issue I had with my 5906. On the first range trip, the RH de-cocker lever flew off into the grass, never to be found. I removed that lever on this one and drilled the "hole" down deeper with a 3/32 drill bit. Now, the detent sits completely into the lever, not just partially. As a further precaution, I also stretched the spring out a little bit for added tension. Gave'er a thorough cleaning and she's ready for the range tomorrow.

the love for the 3913/14 are well documented here......just doesn't get any better but I am a little prejudiced .....yours looks like a keeper

The guy that did the transfer talked highly of it as well. Something to the effect of, "they just don't make'em like this anymore."

Originally, I was planning on picking up a Springfield XDS, in anticipation of my CCW going through. But I stumbled across the single stack Smiths and the weight/dims were very comparable. I ended up snagging this one from my customer--along with 180rds of good, old ammo--for $500.00.

Congratulations on your first single stack! I'd agree that the 3913 (and it's kin) are some of the finest CCW pieces ever made.

Thanks, guys - so far, I'm very happy with it. Range trip last Saturday yielded no malfunctions and no issues hitting the center of a paper plate @ 10yds, which is what I train at. The ammo was crappy Federal aluminum 115gr.

On my local forum, I seem to be one of the very few people who loves these things. They're not the newest and lightest guns, but damn...they always go bang, the SA trigger is a pleasure and at least one Smith always finds its way into my range bag.
