I just have a personal dislike in the 7.62 x 39 and therefore I would go 6.8.

Deer and hog under 100 yards out to 200 maybe

I have both and have hunted whitetail deer and javelina with both. IMHO, The best cartridge is the 6.8 spc, but ammo availability and cost favors the 7.62x39. The quality of my 6.8 barrel is a lot better than that of my 7.62 and that along with reloading, the 6.8 is a tack driver. Even feeding the cartridges out of the magazine, the 6.8 is well under moa. In the case of a SHTF senerio, I will grab the 7.62x39 first. .............. Big Cholla

I also use a .300 black but trying to get a little closer to .308 . I have the 6.8 somebody wanted to trade me for a ak upper but I figured it was a bad idea since the ballistics are better on the 6.8.

Any ammo restrictions as in bullet type for hunting? I mean comblock ammo is pretty cheap for the most part, but some states say no FMJs for hunting which takes away the advantage. Then coupled with what gunslinger said about the franken mags since the 7.62 has a pretty aggressive taper I'd go with the 6.8 out of those 2.

But I'd give 300 blk a look too. you can form it from common 223/556 brass and it not only feeds beautifully from regular mags it takes the same bolt. All you need is a barrel.

6.8 hands down...may want to check out 6.5 grendal. 6.5 grendal is superior if you are shooting at long ranges.

How About under 200 yards . Should I sell my .300 black and 6.8 for ar 10 or 6.5 ?

A whole lot depends on whether or not you are a handloader. If not, the 6.8 stuff is going to eat you alive, in my estimation. Also, you are somewhat limited in projectiles, which adds to the limited applicability.

To me the 300 BK is nothing but a paper puncher, but I may be entirely wrong. It just doesn't do a thing for me ballistically.

The 7.62, IF you are a handloader, lends itself to more options, up to and including a 150-grain projectile.

To me, either beats the 300 BK; I would probably opt for the 6.8 if money is no object, as it is pricey, somewhat pricey even if you do handload, as brass is roughly $70 - $80C.
