guy has a 60-1 with a 3" heavy barrel and square butt up for $400.SCSW says that 171 of these were made. Dont have much of a need for a 3 inch J frame, but I do like to grab S&Ws that are fairly rare. does anyone know anything else about this creature to add that will make up my mind whether to get it or not?

He who snoozes....loses.

I'd buy it, and very quickly. Thats one of the rarer snubbies out there. And a great shooter too.

If you decide you don't want it please let me know, I have wanted one of these for a good many years for concealed carry, they are not very plentiful in this neck of the woods.
Thanks for your time,

If the gun is in good condition and is, in fact, a "-1" (pinned barrel), that is a steal.

I paid substantially more than that, for mine.

Buy it! A 3" J-frame is a pleasure to shoot and very easy to carry. You might not think you need it now, but you'll learn to love it.

I don't think that the primary bunch of these, Model 60's with 3 inch heavy barrels and square butt grips, are even mentioned in the SCS&W. There was a batch of 5,000 made for the John Jovino Co. in 1984. Mine, bought new on 10-11-1984, is S/N AEV65XX.

The "171" mentioned by Supica & Nahas were made in 1972 and are numbered from R56962 to R57239.

There have been at least half a dozen threads on these guns in the last year, so you may find something in a search. They were also made as 60-3's, like the one I sold recently on the classifieds.
