Local gun store got an estate. There is a strange five inch 610 PRE lock. No box 98-99%. With combat grips. From what I understand its 800.00. Did they ever made a 5 inch???? Price sounds OK? Can I use .40 ammo in it safely? Thank You

Yes, definitely, and yes. They can sell for $1,000 and up. I'm pretty sure the 3" and 5" were the rarest, but someone will chime in. Do a search, there was a recent thread or two on the 610 and how expensive they are now. In fact, just scroll down a little further in the 1980 to present forum.

You better be running back to that store! Don't be sitting around here waiting for anymore responses! Move it..Move it....MOVE IT!

Go on Gunbroker, they sell for a lot more than $1K. There is one up there now about to end at $1,800+. Another just started and is at $1K.

Obviously you need to buy the one for $800 at your LGS. Even if you don't want it you will make a few hundred + on it.

And yes 5" and yes shoots .40.

You got a great gun at a better than fair price from what I've seen them go for. Go enjoy it or just rub it down and that's enjoyable too. Lol
I love hearing that my fellow Smith lovers can still find deals out in the marketplace. That's you New Years gift.

Yeah. It is my New Year gift. Now my 625-2 five inch and my 629-3 five inch classic have another friend :) lol.

Wow that is the Holy Grail of 610's in my opinion. The 5" was only made in the first run and is the second rarest 610 second only to the 3". $800 is a phenomenal price. Buy it and post pics and enjoy it.

I paid $400 for mine......... 17 years ago. It (5") and the 6.5" with the fluted cylinders are from the original production from ~1990. While you can shoot 10mm without moonclips you will need them to shoot 40.

I have a friend who walked away from a 5" 610 at a pawn shop about 15 yrs. ago. They told him they'd had it for a long time. He called me to ask if he should buy it. I said YES!! right now, go back. He went in the next morning and it was GONE!!! To this day, he thinks I somehow aced him out, but he never told me what pawn shop.

Good job on your part. When you compare to your 625 and 629, you'll see right away the gun is brute strong!

Yes you need moonclips to shoot 40s.
