I have a 617 - 10 shot 22LR that gets excessively dirty on the frame just above the cylinder primarily over the back part of the cylinder. It was perfectly clean before firing about 60 rounds. Now it is very black in this area.
The barrel/cylinder gap is .007".
Can work on the forcing cone help this problem? And do I polish it or change the angle or both?

.22 ammo is a dirty as it gets. I own three .22 revolvers, and every one of them looks exactly as you describe after 50 or 60 rounds. Shoot it, enjoy it, clean it.

I have seen the same buildup of black residue on all of my 22 revolvers. The outside lubricated lead bullet in 22 ammo is particularly dirty as compared to revolvers shooting either plated or jacketed bullets.

Sounds the norm to me to, put a good coat of wax on her, and when you shoot and get ready to reload wipe it down with a rag. Hard to believe how easy it comes off
