Good afternoon folks,
Tore down for inspection/cleaning my new to me 2008 617-6 yesterday. Quite clean but dry. When I tried to disassemble the cylinder/extractor rod etc. the extactor spring was kind of stuck on the extractor star inside the cylinder and took a little “persuasion” to separate. The spring has a greenish gritty-ish patina along most of its length. I cleaned and lightly polished everything I could but that gritty green stuff won’t come off. Is this a rare occurrence? Or maybe just a lack of maintenance? Is there a way to fix this? I’ve checked Numrich, Midway but not in stock. Is there another outlet for s&w revolver parts somebody could direct me towards?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Jeff.

Jeff,

I think the green color is a powder coating to help assemblers easily identify the spring.

If you need (or want) a new one, S&W Customer Service will likely send you a replacement free of charge if you explain the problem.

They will need your serial number when you call.
