617-6 upgrades

After looking at you guy's 617, I think I want that same mount for mine. That mount sits the red dot a lot lower than what I have now. Those are all very nice looking 617's. Here is my M617-6

Those grips are beautiful on stainless!

ericrlarson,

Thanks, I have smaller hands so I prefer the smallest grip I can get on all my pistols/revolvers.

Jstansfield,

I remember reading a post about that. We have to do whatever is necessary to shoot!

All these cool 22s with red dots got me thinking...
Is there any way to mount a red dot on a 17-6 without modifications/machining?
Looking for plug and play.

The old no gunsmithing mount from b-square is an option . You don't need the clamps on a 22 . I've used this mount on my 17-6 pre full lug , a 17-4 . It's an option if you don't want to drill and tap, but it is higher above the bore.

I've been think about the title of my post. Just for clarification, you don't have to "upgrade" the 617 to have a wonderful gun!! I should have titled it "Changes to suit me"

S&W Model 617 22lr

S&W 617's are the best, top of the line for
American made 22lr Revolvers!

Top Quality comes at a price, Buy one, Cry once or
keep buying them and never look back.

I really enjoy mine, a 4"Bbl and 6"Bbl.

We got your meaning Eric. Just because a gun approaches perfection, the active shooter will probably feel compelled to personalize it... that's just they way shooters are, aren't we? ;)

Never did any action work on it but with the 1000's of rounds thru it its now buttery smooth

The holster needs to go and I think I'm going to replace it with a Speedbeez holster soon.

Nice set up. I was torn between the 4 and 6".

the 4 inch presents faster from the holster than the 6 inch but if you go irons the 6 inch has a better sight radius
I have a 6 inch but I'm selling it to fund another gun

Don't sell it. You will only want it again in the future.

I've sold lots of guns wanting to finance a new project and now that I'm old I regret most that I have sold.

I've noticed some loading blocks that appear to be holding moon clips and/or speed loaders in a few threads lately. Where can I get something like this? Please send me a PM or Email.
Thank you
