I have a new 617 I would like to get smoothed up. I am in Richmond VA area. Is the a good tuner in this area. All smiths seem to do nothing but AR work.

I can ship, but prefer not to do that.

Thanks

Is this a “new” gun or just new to you? Why do you think it needs action work? Have you dry fired enough to smooth it in? Are you planning on a lot of DA shooting? Remember that a rimfire needs a heavier action to be reliable. I have done a lot of action work on guns that owners never shoot double action… Note: We will assume you will be using snap caps when dry firing due to potential cylinder / firing pin damage. It is difficult to include every caveat in a short reply.

It is new

Bought new 2 or so months ago. Put 300 hundred round thru it in double action. It is smoothing up some. another 1000 or so could smooth it up more.

Im no stranger to taking my revolvers apart and stoning things but, think about this, firing the gun alot, or cheaper, dry firing, the parts will wear in perfectly to each other, mate together. Plus your marksmanship/ trigger control will improve too.

What trigger did it come with?

If it’s a standard serrated .265” you’ll get better feel with a smooth, wider version, and now would be a good time to swap it out while the gun is still relatively new.

I have 2 fairly new M617's, 4" & 6", You might remove the side plate, 3 screws, put the screws back in the same spots, spray it out with Rem oil, or lots of brands like that, clean & lube type spray, put a drop of Lucus Gun Oil on all moving parts, then run 1000-1500 rounds thru it.. If you want it a little lighter trigger pull, I replaced the rebound spring with a 15 lb. one, Mine when New was 12 1/2 lb., Now they have around 9 lb., Double Action.. 3 1/2 Single Action, But that's where I want mine, No Mis-Fires, my 6" was pretty clean, the 4" was black & nasty inside for some reason. Don't forget to clean under the ejector star after each range session. That was just Me. good luck..
