Id like to see Smith make the 617 in 4 and 6 inch Bbl's without the underlug and the lock.

Email S&W and tell them to make a stainless model of the current
model 18 Classic and call it a 618.

How about 5 inch and 3 1/2 inch barrels, red ramp and white outline sights.

Tell everyone to email the request, who knows maybe they will !

Yes I already sent my request to them... JW

I'd really like a 22lr with a 6 inch tapered pencil barrel, kind of like the Colt Officer's Model Target, or Match (I forget which one). I only fired one once, but I really like how the longer tapered barrels point. I also like how they increase the sight radius without adding as much mass to the end of the muzzle. I had a model 48, and a model 648, both with 6 inch barrels, and even though the muzzle jumped very little on either gun the model 48 came onto target easier and was quicker to acquire a new target with because there was less weight pushing the muzzle to overtravel.

By the way, beautiful 617, Revho. I am not a fan of the full underlug look. That 617 reminds me of my model 10 heavy barrel. Simply beautiful, and practical.

I have the 617 6 inch and 648 6 inch, they are great and accurate guns but seems too heavy for the caliber. The half lug just seems to fit me better.

I haven't tried a model 18. How do they compare to a model 17, and a model 34? I know 4" model 17's are hard to come by. I've owned (and foolishly sold) a model 34-1 with a 4" barrel. That was a sweet shooting little revolver. I've shot the 6" model 48, which seems much to large for the caliber. The 18 looks interesting. How does it stack up against model 17? What are the chief differences, other than the normal barrel length?

I recently bought a model 18. This is definitively my favorite Smith and Wesson .22 Lr.
When compared to my otherwise very accurate 6 "model 617, it is, much easier to handle and stay on target with.
The shorter and fluted barrel must be the key reason for it.
I do subscribe to the idea a 5 " model 618 would be a great addition to the Smith and Wesson line.
Such a revolver equipped with a black, non ramped front sight and large rear sight would be a devastating news for close to medium range encountered varmints, soda cans and 25 meters X rings!!
:)
