I'm looking to get a holster for a 3" 624. I haven't gotten the gun yet so I can't measure it myself: Is the size of the cylinder across N frames pretty much the same? I have a 25-5 and a 27-2 and they both have the same size cyl, and I'm assuming the .44s would too, but you know what happens when you assume.

I ask because few holster makers list the 624. Many list the 629. I'm assuming (there's that word again) that if the cylinders are the same size I can order a 629 holster and it'll work with the 624. Is that a good assumption?

Thanks,

Yes, its an N frame. All the same.

And to add to what ENH says above, the barrel on a 624 is of the tapered variety, whereas most N frames (29, 629, etc.) came with the no taper barrels (Mountain Guns excepted). This MIGHT be an issue, but a very small one I would think. If I were looking for a holster for a 624, I would have no qualms about ordering for a 29 or 629.

Plus one for the prior opinions. Any N frame holster of the right length should work just fine.

If your gun is a 3" barreled 624, check out Simply Rugged.com. I
recently got a sourdough pancake from Rob Leahy and am very pleased
with the quality and workmanship of the one he built for my M24-3. The
transaction was flawless and the turnaround was about 10 days. The
price was reasonable too.

El Paso Saddlery can also make a holster for your gun too. I believe the cylinder might be a tiny bit shorter than the model 29/629, but not enough that it would make a big difference.

Thank you all for the info. Yep, it's the 3". I'll check with the two mentioned. I have an EPS for another gun, and it's a good holster for the price. Was also looking at Fist, who don't advertise for 3" guns, but will make for them if ordered.

I have a Simply Rugged setup for a 21-4.
Had a 3 inch 624 in the 80s and bought from S&W.

I carry a 624 3" a lot in a Simply Rugged,I love it,I am 6' 1" and 330#,most holsters tip out on me with the heavy N frames, the SR does not,Rob is also a great guy to do business with.

+1 on Simply Rugged. Had him made me one for my 686P 2 1/2" and all I can say is WOW.
